Microsoft Surface is a revolutionary multi-touch computer that responds to natural hand gestures and real-world objects, helping people interact with digital content in a simple and intuitive way. With a large, horizontal user interface, Surface offers a unique gathering place where multiple users can collaboratively and simultaneously interact with data and each other.

iLink's Surface solutions provide tremendous potential for businesses to improve communication, and be more efficient in how they deliver information and services to their customers. The intuitive and approachable interface is easy to learn and the familiar software platform makes it easy to manage, too. The multi-touch and multi-user capabilities create an incredibly collaborative experience, where sharing and exploring information is easier than ever. Our healthcare solutions on Microsoft Surface can help improve the physician patient relationship.

For example, patients can receive a better clinic experience by allowing self check-ins or researching and reviewing treatment options in collaboration with clinical staff. For clinicians, Microsoft Surface could be used as a smart white board for the emergency room or medical center, helping teams collaborate on treatment options.

Microsoft Surface has four key capabilities that make it such a unique experience:

  • Direct interaction. Users can grab digital information with their hands and interact with content on-screen by touch and gesture – without using a mouse or keyboard.
  • Multi-user experience. The large, horizontal, 30 inch display makes it easy for several people to gather and interact together with Microsoft Surface - providing a collaborative, face-to-face computing experience.
  • Multi-touch. Microsoft Surface responds to many points of contact simultaneously - not just from one finger, as with a typical touch screen, but from dozens of contact points at once.
  • Object recognition. Users can place physical objects on the screen to trigger different types of digital responses – providing for a multitude of applications and the transfer of digital content to mobile devices.

Demo summary:  The demo shows a Microsoft Surface application that is used to help physicians  discuss treatment plans with patients along with their family members around specific chronic disease condition. Upon diagnosis, chronic condition patients are thrown into a frightening and complex world of new terminology, life determining decision-making and an overwhelming need for information. During the first year after diagnosis, patients experience anywhere from 50 to 150 visits, procedures or treatments offered by a wide variety of health professionals in a number of patient care settings. This aspect of a chronic condition patient’s care constitutes only about 26 percent of their lifetime care going forward that spans many years to the rest of their life.  Caregivers today are very interested in leveraging meaningful use of technologies to significantly improve quality of care for chronic case patients. The solution demonstrates how the use of Microsoft Surface, Microsoft HealthVault, Microsoft Amalga, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and complementary technologies such as Microsoft .NET Framework, SQL Server and Windows Server are used to improve the experience for chronic condition patients as well as provide more innovative ways for the care team to inform the patient of their medical condition and ultimately leverage technology to improve the outcome of patient care.
