Industries > Healthcare > Service Oriented Architecture

The healthcare industry represents the most challenging industry for IT solution implementation. This is due to the nature of the healthcare industry's complicated business processes, sophisticated medical data, heterogeneous components, and fragmented software systems. The fragmented software systems is perhaps the main culprit of the IT challenges. The business of delivering quality care require that IT systems are highly integrated and flexible to dynamic business changes. Healthcare industry also exhibits many business changes but very few technology changes to support the business needs.
A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) will generally be a perfect way to meet these challenges. The question remains, however, how does an organization realize the full adoption and deployment. Improving operational efficiency and reducing cost, while also improving the quality of care is a global healthcare challenge. Most healthcare organizations have disparate IT systems and components that do not talk to each other. For example, patient data in the lab system cannot be accessed by the doctors in the pharmacy care system. Even if they did, the data might not be in sync. This leads to problems with redundant data present all over the organization in various disparate systems that cannot be accessed and shared easily. This type of environment severely hinders the productivity and efficiency of the healthcare organizations to delivery quality services to patients. To overcome these challenges, developing and implementing solutions based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is required.
Our SOA solution built on Microsoft technologies includes:
  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 and 2004 enable decoupled integration with a wide range of systems and deliver full support for business processes and activity monitoring.
  • Microsoft .NET-connected solutions enable businesses to build, deploy, operate, and integrate XML Web services, a critical component of a SOA.
  • Windows Communication Foundation provides the framework for building, configuring, and deploying network-distributed services and interoperable service-oriented applications that enable cross-platform interoperability and integration.
  • Windows Server System integrated server software supports the applications and technology components required to build an enterprise SOA.
In addition to being highly scalable and security enhanced, our solutions enables compliance with industry wide standards such as Health Level 7 (HL7), and the Healthcare Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
