The entire iLink team would like to join me in wishing you a prosperous and joyful 2013!
At iLink, we had one of the most memorable Christmas seasons ever with our involvement in the Santa tracking system. Google has supported the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) Santa Tracker since 2007, but in 2012 things have changed. This year, the jolly man in red was tracked using Microsoft products and iLink was front and center in this effort. iLink worked with NORAD, Microsoft and other NORAD strategic partners to ensure the completeness of the website (http://www.noradsanta.org/) and its features. The website was designed, architected and deployed to handle the load and provide the users with the best experience possible.
iLink's Windows Azure & Windows 8 effort (http://www.ilink-systems.com/Technology/Windows-8/Norad-2013) involved deploying a highly scalable, cost effective, and high performance website on the Windows Azure cloud computing platform to meet all of Santa's and NTS's challenging requirements. Though the official stats are not yet published, NORAD has acknowledged that this is by far the most successful year for NORAD Tracks Santa and has broken all previous records with 80+ Million page visits from over 235 countries. As the official statistics come out, this project could be a widely touted example of Microsoft's cloud capabilities as well as Microsoft's unique "single platform supports multiple form factors" message. The website and the Windows 8 applications were also used heavily by the NORAD support staff and the 1250+ volunteers on December 24th 2012, to help track Santa and answer the record breaking 114,000+ calls to the helpdesk from users across the world.
Just like the service tracks the jolly Saint cut across the human race for the period of his thrilling flight to bring happiness and presents to tots across the world, we hope that the New Year brings happiness and peace to everyone across the world.
