Patient Engagement

4 / Nov / 2013    Anand Gaddum

We all have our own definitions of “Patient Engagement”. Though they might differ in words, to the most part, the meaning will be almost the same. In simple words, engaging the patient to improve health outcomes is how I would define it. Till recent times, a Patient Engagement solution would primarily bring data from the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and take the shape of a wellness solution. This was due to the fact that most hospitals, after making huge investments in their EMR, believed that the EMR would become the primary storage of patient data.

Hadoop has changed the way we process and analyse large volumes of data. The java map reduce framework has been the work hourse of hadoop data processing. It moves the nuts and bolts of hadoop. However the vanilla map reduce requires lot of code to be written in Java. The amount of boiler plate code required to create simple map reduce program to join two datasets is staggering.

Good guess, I am alluding to the Banking Industry. When Banks hemorrhage – slightly or severely – Uncle Sam pulls cards from the Keynesian deck (Keynesian Economics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keynesian_economics ). Multiple factors including the heavily clichéd “Too Big to Fail” phrase comes to mind. But are these banks too big to care? Well, social technologies like FB, Twitter – and better yet – the access to technology via smart phones for not so

Patient Experience and Patient Satisfaction go hand in hand. Patient Experience is not only related to the experience that a patient has within a hospital but also how they interact with the hospital after discharge, how they participate in their own care along with the care team and how they are able to communicate with the hospital, etc. So considering all these factors, to provide a rich patient experience is not easy.
