Windows 8 – The right choice for field auditor applications

30 / Nov / 2012    Abhi Vantaram

The new Windows 8 platform is an excellent choice for field auditor based applications. Field auditors, in the field I am most familiar with which is Environmental Compliance, have a need for a “more than smart phone” interface need for them to perform their day to day duties on the field. It is also not feasible for them to carry a laptop along with them all the time. They are tasked with tracking standards like Code of Federal Regulations (40 CFRs, 29 CFRs, etc) set by the EPA and other governing agencies at various facilities on any given day.

This class is inherited by Control class, therefore it has all the properties which control has. In fact this is also known as SemanticZoom control. Here is a class diagram of SemanticZoom class

Microsoft Surface - Review and First Day Impressions

We got our pre-ordered Microsoft Surface RT yesterday. I had some experience using a Windows 8 on Samsung Series 7 tablets in the context of the Windows 8 applications we have been developing for sometime, but using the Surface RT as a consumer user is very different. It was worth the wait and standing in crazy long line in front of the Microsoft Store in the Bellevue Square Mall. Overall Microsoft has done an awesome job with the Surface.

Collaboration is a key factor in many successful things we do in life and at work. For this blog, I will stick to work scenarios. Companies create collaborative environments for their employees to work and be successful. They build or rent office space for employees to work together. They set up telecommunication equipment, computers, networks, etc. for employees to communicate with one another and work successfully.

Population Health Management

Lately I have been hearing the term “Population Health” in most of my conversations with healthcare executives. It is easy to think up a meaning for this term based on our mental model of what “Population Health” would or could mean. I looked up various definitions online and found one that was close to my mental model.

Microsoft’s gone Modern! – Windows 8 and “Modern” UI Style

Microsoft is getting a full make over! We had been hearing from Microsoft that the “Metro”, which is now called the “Modern” UI Style is going to be defining UI style through the bold use of color, typography, and motionstyle creating a brand new, live and fresh experience across all of Microsoft products. But over the last few months we started realizing that it’s a change in Microsoft’s DNA.

One of the things that I was confused about in the last few hours, and I am confident that many more people are going to be confused about in next few months is the difference between "Windows RT" and WinRT.

America seems to like its two-party system because no matter how much we may lament it, we don’t seem to support a robust third party. Mobile phones must be following this same trend as Apple and Android continue to enjoy the lion’s share of the mobile device operating systems. Consumers vote with their purchases, while app developers and device manufacturers resemble the special interests and super-PACs influencing those voting decisions.
